A very rich, full-bodied and full-colored ruby style vintage port. The nose displays sweet jammy berry, plum and anise fruit aromas integrated with elegant brandy spirit. A luscious, sweet palate is balanced by moderate tannins. The wine is approachable now but will continue to develop and integrate more so over the next few years. Due to limited handling, this wine may develop a small amount of sediment over time.
The Shiraz for this wine comes from Henry Trion’s Nervo Ranch in the heart of Alexander Valley. At harvest the Shiraz becomes very soft and shriveled but gains wonderful concentration. On-skin fermentation was stopped by fortifying with select low-strength brandy spirit when desirable color and flavor extraction had been achieved and to retain some residual sugar. The wine was then aged in old barrels for fifteen months to help integrate the fruit and spirit as well as soften the tannins.
