Bin Series wines are created only in the greatest vintages, typically from Cabernet Sauvignon or Shiraz. Each Bin wine comes from specific barrels from specially made reserve lots. These barrels are painstakingly seleted by winemaker Mick Schroeter for their exceptional qualities. There have been eight Bin wines since the series’ inception in 1995. The wines are designated in sequential order, by vintage, and labeled in the unassuming Australian tradition of a laboratory-style label which designates the area, or bin, within the winery where the wines are aged.
The making of this wine incorporates the use of specialized winemaking techniques gleaned from my Aussie winemaking days. The wine was matured in small French oak barrels. I then selected the very best barrels to make this limited cuvée. These came, unsurprisingly, from some of Alexander Valley’s best hillside and benchland sites. To preserve the wine’s intensity, it was neither fined nor final filtered prior to bottling. – Mick Schroeter
