About This Wine:
This wine is only the 8th wine to be released in the highly limited Bin Series ...

A dense, dark, brooding wine of deep crimson color. Unmistakably Cabernet from a classic vintage year and a great follow-up wine to the highly regared Bin 2 (1995), Bin 5 (1997) and Bin 7 (2001) Cabernet Sauvignons. Intense, concentrated aromas of blackberry, black cherry and mocha combine with sweet cedary oak on the nose. The palate is dominated by ripe, juicy berry and black cherry fruit, followed by powerful but fine-grained tannins. Having undergone extended bottle maturation prior to release, the wine now shows impeccable balance of fruit and tannin. A complex wine that is incredibly long and lingering. This wine is destined to be a California classic, given another five to ten years of bottle maturation. Due to minimal winemaking intervention, it will develop a small amount of sediment over time.

Production Notes:

Bin Series wines are created only in the greatest vintages, typically from Cabernet Sauvignon or Shiraz. Each Bin wine comes from specific barrels from specially made reserve lots. These barrels are painstakingly seleted by winemaker Mick Schroeter for their exceptional qualities. There have been eight Bin wines since the series’ inception in 1995. The wines are designated in sequential order, by vintage, and labeled in the unassuming Australian tradition of a laboratory-style label which designates the area, or bin, within the winery where the wines are aged.

Winemaker Notes:

The making of this wine incorporates the use of specialized winemaking techniques gleaned from my Aussie winemaking days. The wine was matured in small French oak barrels. I then selected the very best barrels to make this limited cuvée. These came, unsurprisingly, from some of Alexander Valley’s best hillside and benchland sites. To preserve the wine’s intensity, it was neither fined nor final filtered prior to bottling. – Mick Schroeter
