A stylishly polished wine, Reserve Alexandre displays balance between concentration and refinement.
A stylishly polished wine, Reserve Alexandre displays balance between concentration and refinement. A core of blackberry jam, fine cherry and rich mocha is surrounded by more subtle nuances of dark chocolate, smoky-mint, and vanilla cream. The structure is softly complex with pliant tannins that will hold the wine for years if desired yet will yield handsomely to decanting in its youth. Overall balance, elegance and harmony are the hallmarks of this wine.

For Bordeaux varietals, I look to prime vineyards from Alexander Valley’s northern and central hillsides, where warmer days help develop rich fruit flavors in the grapes. Small lots of grapes were vinified separately and matured in French oak barrels for three months. After lengthy evaluation and trial blending, the final blend was assembled and matured as a single wine for fourteen months. —Mick Schroeter
