The Trione Ranch sits on the eastern benchland in the heart of the Alexander Valley where volcanic and alluvial soils provide nearly ideal growing conditions for Petite Sirah vines. In the shadow of Geyser Peak Mountain this historically important grape thrives on cordon-trained vines.
Petite Sirah grapes were hand harvested and brought to the crush pad where they were de-stemmed and gently crushed. The must underwent a 3 day cold soak prior to the start of fermentation which extracted the vibrant fruit aromas and gorgeous deep purple color. Six day fermentation with twice daily pump-overs built the structure of this massive wine and 18 months of aging in a blend of French and American oak barrels tamed the formidable tannins to produce a wine of concentrated elegance. Pair this special wine with strong cheeses, and soy or tamari-glazed meats and vegetables. - Mick Schroeter
Known for its powerful tannins and inky color Petite Sirah is often utilized as a blending partner to other varietals but when crafted as a single varietal yields distinctive and compelling lip-staining wines. Fruity aromas of plum jam mix with earthy notes of pepper and cola and the palate is a riot of supple pomegranate fruit with a generous structure and firm, mouth-filling tannins and a round texture.
