About This Wine:
Rolling hills, river beds and proximity to the Pacific give the Russian River Valley an amazing variety of microclimates. Each year a handful of vineyards and vineyard blocks are chosen for their unique characters by an extensive tasting through the dozens of small batches. From these few wines, we further select and blend the very best to truly showcase the blocks and regions they come from.
Tasting Notes:
Captivating aromas of honeyed apricot, nectarine and fruit elements jump out of the glass. Lush and concentrated, this superb dessert wine shows great balance, intensity and style. It finishes with high natural acidity, which elegantly counterpoints the flavors of dried stone fruits that linger and mingle harmoniously at great length.
Vineyard Notes:
In 2004 we had the Trione family plant three acres of Riesling on the River Road Ranch specifically for the purpose of producing fruit for a late harvest style. The Russian River area has a climate ideally suited to the production of these wines. The combination of sunny fall days and morning fogs encourage the growth of the noble rot, Botrytis. This was the last vineyard harvested for the 2008 vintage.
Production Notes:
After hand picking in the cool morning hours the grapes were settled for 24 hours of skin contact, the fruit was then gently pressed over an extended period to extract the “liquid gold”. This was followed by a long slow fermentation in stainless steel. Enjoy our inaugural bottling from this vineyard with a rich fruit tart or poached pears. – Mick Schroeter
