Accolade Wines to launch Geyser Peak California wines to the UKHarpers Wines & Spirits Trade Review The move signals Geyser Peak's return to the UK after a number of years and gives Accolade a premium quality Californian wine brand it can distribute across the off-trade at all the key price points. The move was announced on the opening day of Prowein which runs in Dusseldorf between March 24 and March 26, and follows Accolade's purchase of Geyser Peak in June last year..... Ondine Chattan, director of winemaking at Geyser Peak, said this was the first time it had specifically changed the style of its varietal wine range to suit a particular export market. "We understand the UK consumer is looking for a little more acidity, and a little more tannin and intensity in their wines than the US wine drinker," she explained. She has been working with the Accolade winemaking team on creating UK-style blends since last November. These will also be available to European buyers.... "This is a very important step for us," added Chattan. "It has saved us." She said she was delighted to be working with a big company again "willing to invest" in what they were doing......"Accolade has come in with a true belief in the brand and the support we need. It is incredibly exciting."... Coppola buys Geyser Peak Winery facilities, vineyardsPress DemocratMarch 18, 2013
The deal enables Coppola to expand its winemaking capabilities after a bumper crop that left many wineries scrambling for additional space in wineries, barrels and tanks. "In a nutshell, we've outgrown our space where we are," said Corey Beck, general manager and director of winemaking at Coppola. "This was an opportunity for us not only to get a historic property, but also to increase our production." Although Coppola will own the tasting room and buildings, the Geyser Peak wine label and brand were not part of the deal. Accolade Wines, the Australian company that bought Geyser Peak Winery and sister brands Atlas Peak and XYZin in June, will continue to lease the tasting room and make wine on the property. "We're proceeding the same way," said Tim Matz, managing director of Accolade Wines North America. "Whenever things like this happen, there could be some change, but at this point everything's the same. We obviously still own the trademark and the brand and we continue to build that across the world." You need Adobe Acrobat Reader to view pdf documents.
